Robert Gerhard Block, a resident of Pierz, MN, died April 26, 2003, at St. Gabriel's Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was April 29 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery. Military rites were provided by the American Legion Post #341 and the VFW Post #1112.

Robert G. Block was born on Jan. 16, 1924, in Lastrup, MN, to the late Henry and Magdalena (Sand) Block. During his youth he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp. Robert married Ann Huver on Sept. 22, 1949, in Pierz. Following their marriage the couple moved to the Buckman area where they farmed. Robert served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He not only farmed but was a heavy equipment operator, and he also worked as a block layer and in building construction. He loved to read and was never without a book. He was also an avid Jeopardy player, and enjoyed winning at cribbage. During his retirement, he handcrafted many beautiful bird houses, nativity cribs, and bird feeders. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #341 of Pierz and VFW Post #1112 of Little Falls, MN.

Survivors include his daughters, Mary Frerich and husband Roy of Randall, MN, Sharon Bell and husband Joe of Pierz, and Susan Block of Monticello, MN; sisters, Hilda Hoheisel of Lastrup, MN and Betty Krych of Harding, MN; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife (April 8, 1994); his parents; daughter Roberta; an infant daughter, Clare and infant son, Michael; four brothers and three sisters.
