GEORGE F. "FRED" KRACKE SR., 90

George F. "Fred" Kracke Sr. passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland, just one day shy of his 91st birthday.

Born in Philadelphia on Aug. 9, 1917, he grew up in the Fairview section of Camden. After marrying his wife of 55 years, Nellie (Maida), he eventually came to Millville in 1947 and moved into the house that he had built, where he resided until his passing. George "Fred" enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, and after being honorably discharged he went to work at New York Ship in Camden. He was there until it closed in 1967. Upon their closing, he eventually went to work at Wheaton Glass in Millville until his retirement in 1982. An original founding member of St. John Bosco Parish, he and his wife were active in various church functions.

Over the years, he enjoyed fishing in the ocean and in Delaware Bay. He also enjoyed raising delicious strawberries and watching the exploits of the Phillies and Eagles. In the early years, he was active in the Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1778 of Millville and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by three sons, George F. Kracke Jr. and wife Sandra of Farmington, Mo., John H. Kracke and wife Dottie of Ranson, W.Va., and Michael T. Kracke and wife Angie of Millville; one daughter-in-law, Carol Kracke of Millville; one sister, Marie P. Reigel of Surprise, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Lisa Sanderlin, Tracey Shea, Michael Kracke Jr., Kimberly Kracke and Shawn Hogan, all of Millville, and John M. Kracke and Michele Irving of Virginia; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Sanderlin, Sean Sanderlin, William Shea, Kerry Shea, Madison Kracke, John G. Kracke and Caysie Irving.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie (Maida), in 1996; his son, Martin, in 2004; one sister, Katherine Eibel; and one brother, John Kracke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 2 Hillcrest Ave., Millville. Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service in the church.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Millville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Christy Funeral Home, Millville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 2 Hillcrest Ave., Millville, NJ 08332; or to the charity of one's choice in his name.
