Martha J. Wiese, 79

Funeral services were Friday, November 17 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn for Martha J. Wiese, 79 of Elkhorn, who died November 14, 1989 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha. Rev. Mark Fry officiated. Burial was in the Elk City Cemetery.

Martha J. Schmidt Wiese was born September 30, 1910 in Bennington. She married William Wiese and was a homemaker.

Her husband, William preceded her in death on December 25, 1975.

She is survived by three sons, Robert and Richard, both of Omaha and William, Jr., of Bennington; two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Patrick) Early of Illinois and Donna (Mrs. Arlen) Westphal of Arizona; two brothers, Otto Schmidt of Arlington and Arnold Schmidt of Bennington; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Swanson Funeral Home in Elkhorn was in charge of arrangements for the services.

I thought I'd share a little about how Martha passed away. She was apparently quite an active woman and in pretty good shape. One day she planned to clean the outside of the windows at her house. She apparently tired of waiting for one of her sons to come by and decided to start things herself. She ended up falling off of a ladder, sustaining head injuries, and was found some undetermined amount of time later. Ultimately she succumbed from her injuries.

Thanks to Martha's niece Sheila #47702527 for the updated information.
