Josephine was born in Mendota, MN on November 28, 1904 to the late Emil and Mary (Pothen) Froehner. She moved to Pierz at an early age and attended Pierz country school. She was united in marriage to Ferdinand Schmidtz on June 17, 1930 in Pierz, MN. They farmed near Pierz and Josephine was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Mary's Villa Resident Choir and of Christian Mothers. Josephine resided at St. Mary's Villa since January 30, 1991.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Caroline of Lastrup, Eugene and Mary Ann of Bellingham, WA, David and Joyce of Maple Grove, Edward and Judy of Minneapolis, Marvin and Barbara of Fridley; daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn Sipper of Duluth, Doris and Virgil Weiss of Lastrup, Mary Ann and James Koroll of Little Falls, Carol and Gene Koroll of St. Joseph, Bonnie and Allen Van Ranst of St. Paul, Sheila and Robert Przybilla of Fridley; one sister, Maria Froehner of Minneapolis; 44 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ferdinand on December 8, 1980; sisters, Mrs. Edward (Helen) Stangl, Mrs. Ferdinand (Catherine) Dahmen and Mrs. Edward (Anita) Virnig.
