Thomas W. "Tom" Siegel, 89, of Cheyenne died Nov. 7 in Thermopolis.

He was born Dec. 14, 1915, in Green River to Lillian (Harris) and Walter Siegel.

He graduated from Green River High School in 1934 where he was named All State Wyoming fullback while playing for the Green River Wolves football team. He attended the University of Wyoming and Denver University on football scholarships.

He met and married Helen Irene Fabian in Green River in 1940.

Mr. Siegel served in the U.S. Army during World War II working as a mechanic stationed in various bases around the states. Receiving the rank of corporal, he was recently honored with a veteran's plaque at the new Veterans Memorial in Thermopolis. He was a lifelong member of the Cheyenne VFW.

Following his military service, he moved to Cheyenne and worked for the railway mail service running from Cheyenne to Ogden. After the train mail service was discontinued, he worked for the U.S. Postal Office in Cheyenne until retirement in 1968. He was a member of the Railway Mail Clerk's Association. He drove rural Cheyenne school buses for several years.

A 50-year season ticket holder, he enjoyed University of Wyoming football, traveling to numerous away and bowl games. He also enjoyed women's college basketball, reading and history.

He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Cheyenne, serving in the vestry and other committees. He donated one of the famous stained-glass windows in St. Christopher's Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Thermopolis; three children, Margaret Stansill of Thermopolis, Julie Talley of Laramie and Steve Siegel of Cheyenne; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Thomas Walter and sisters, Lillian McCoy and Margaret Kemp of Green River.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.
