Company E
6th Ohio Cavalry
Union Army
CIVIL WAR
He was 21 years old when he enlisted on 2 Oct 1862 for 3 years service. He was captured on 9 May 1864 while on Sheridans Raid on the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. For a time, he was held at the notorious Andersonville prison, but was transferred out. He died in a Confederate prison at Milton, Georgia, on an unknown date.
One or more burial registries show that he served in the 6th Ohio Infantry. Nobody named Jewitt/Jewett served in the 6th OH Infantry.
A well-documented family history gives his date of death as Oct ____ 1864. Presumably, the family must have been given an estimated date of his death.
