He received several degrees in history, including a Ph.D, and eventually became a professor at San Jose State College for many years. His specialty was recent U.S. History and he was a liberal through and through, especially when it came to discussing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Progressive Party from his home state of Wisconsin, and labor unions. Class was never boring. He interjected numerous humorous anecdotes into the lectures and encouraged class participation. He wore thick glasses and moved about the front of the room with great animation like Robert Preston in "The Music Man". He was quite unforgettable.
