She was born May 9, 1920, in Georgetown, the daughter of Ralph and Ethel Hubbard. She married John David Volk on Dec. 13, 1941, in Newport, Ind. He preceded her in death in April 2000.
Survivors include: two daughters, Suzanne (Zigmas) Mockaitis of Georgetown and Mary Lee (Steve) Land of Ridge Farm; four grandchildren, Molly (Joshua) Isenberg of Chicago, Natalie (Bill) Cottrell of Westville, Jane Mockaitis of Chicago, and Julie (Dave Tjhio) Mockaitis of Chicago; two step grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Dawson of Indianapolis and Brad Land of Phoenix, Ariz.; three great-grandchilren, Margo Isenberg of Chicago, and Lacee and Will Cottrell of Westville; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Kathryn and Kelli Dawson of Indianapolis. Her parents, one brother, Benton Hubbard, and a son-in-law, Michael Galyen, preceded Miriam in death.
Miriam graduated from Danville High School and then attended Utterback-Brown Business College. In her early twenties she sang in a dance band in the Danville area. She was known for her appreciation and love of music. She taught piano lessons for several years and played the organ at St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Georgetown. Her greatest joys were when she was with her family and playing the piano.
Services were held at St. Isaac's Jogues Parish in Georgetown; Officiating: Father John Paninski; Houghton Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown was in charge of the arangements; Burial: Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
