Jim Berry, 68, of Fort Smith passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. He was the former executive director of Kay Rodgers Park from 1990 to January of this year, was a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. During his tenure at Kay Rodgers Park, numerous improvements and expansions were made, and he was named to the Fair Managers Hall of Fame in 2001. Jim attended Van Buren schools and set several records in track in the 1950s. He also played football at Van Buren and later at Ouachita Baptist College. Jim was also an avid outdoorsman and loved deer hunting, four-wheeling, fishing and snake hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth; two daughters, Teresa and husband Rick Jones of Fort Smith and Liz and husband Joe Armstrong of Fort Smith; his father, Lawrence Berry and his wife, Jimmie, of Fort Smith; one sister, Beverly Carter of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two brothers, Jack Berry of Sallisaw and Tom Berry of Lake St. Louis, Mo. Jim is also survived by three grandchildren, Weston Jones and Elli and Walker Armstrong, all of Fort Smith. His grandchildren were the No. 1 favorite thing in his world. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Berry.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Harvest Time Tabernacle with private burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be his close friends.

Family visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home.
