Robert "Bob" Patek, Sr. of Shiner, Texas died Thursday, February 26, 2004 at UTMB Hospital in Galveston, Texas after a courageous battle against a lung disease. Bob died of complications from a lung transplant he received in November 8, 2003, after his own lungs were compromised by severe Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born June 3, 1938, in Shiner, to the late Joseph Sr. and Emilie Novosad Patek. Bob was a businessman and co-owner of Patek Grocery and Market. He was a Catholic and a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius parish in Shiner. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the K.J.T. societies. Bob was a retired member of the Shiner Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce. Through his faith and business, Bob touched many people's lives as he was present to all and a friend to so many he came in contact with.

Survivors: Wife, Betty Lou Hajek Patek of Shiner; daughters, Lisa Koenning and Connie Mraz, of Shiner; son, Robert "L.B." Patek Jr. of Shiner; daughter-in-law, Lisa Honish Patek; Sons-in-law, Jeff Mraz and Harold Koenning. Sisters; Barbara Lloyd of Shiner and Rosalie Vrana of Midway; brothers, Joe "Peppy" Patek, Jr. William D. Patek, Deacon Paul Patek, all of Shiner and 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, and Kris Patek; Cullen, Hannah, and Sarah Koenning; Cody, Courtney, and Hunter Mraz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David Wayne Patek, Sr.

Visitation will begin Sunday, February 29 at 8:00 a.m. at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary/Wake Service will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Mass of Resurrection Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 1st, also at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.

Burial will be at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are nephews: Joey Patek, Jimmy Lloyd, Jr., Billie Patek, Jr., Paul Patek, Jr., David Patek, Jr., and Michael Vrana.
