John Jurjens Homm, son of Herman J. and Anna Homm was born in Yuma County, Colorado, at a spot now near the west edge of Bonnie Reservoir on June 22, 1895. He departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years 2 months and 22 days.
He was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a child and remained in that faith throughout his life.
John grew up, attended school and lived near the Republican River, north of Burlington. On Aug. 20, 1918, he was united in marriage to Zuella Knapp. To this union two sons were born, Howard and James.
John spent his entire lifetime in the cattle industry. He was well known and respected as a breeder of registered Herefords. He lived his last seven years as a resident of the Grace Manor Nursing Home.
John was a good neighbor, faithful husband and father. He was preceded in death by his wife Zuella; his son James, one brother and three sisters.
He leaves to mourn his passing, one son, Howard; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Burdine Homm and Mrs. Lois Homm; four grandsons, Larry, John, Richard and Ronnie Homm; three granddaughters, ZuAnn Hogan, Dorothy Abbott and Barbara Homm; three great grandchildren, Cy Howard Homm, Kristi Homm and Glen Hogan, all of Burlington. He is also survived by three sisters of Burlington, Mrs. Minnie Davis, Mrs. Tillie Russman and Mrs. Alma Lengel, in addition to numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Homm were held Wednesday Sept. 17, at the Hendricks Chapel with Rev. Henry Thorberg officiating.
Son selections, "Going Down The valley" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," were sung by the Immanuel Lutheran mens' choir accompanied at the organ by Sandee Strobel. Accompanying himself on the guitar, Dick Homm sang "How Great Thou Art."
Casket bearers were Dave Richards, Frank Walters, Ernie McArthur, Harry Richards, Ernie Langendoerfer and Harvey McDonald.
Interment was made at Fairview Cemetery.
