He joined the US Army out of high school at age 18. He served as a platoon sergeant in Iraq as part of the Persian Gulf War of 1991. Previously, he had been deployed to Korea. Part of his job in Iraq was training Iraqi police officers. He had planned to retire in January 2005. However, his retirement was rejected and he was sent to Iraq. He was killed when his unit came under mortar attack in Baghdad.
He was survived by his wife; his daughter; and his son.
Interment on October 20, 2004.
