Funeral Services Tues. for Marie Nielsen-Carlsen

Friends and relatives of the community were saddened by the death of
Mrs.Carl Carlsen, following a lingering illness of several months, last
Saturday afternoon, Oct. 14.

Marie Nielsen was born at the Nielsen farm in Drammen township, Lincoln
county, July 7, 1895. She lived in her parental home during her childhood
and early youth. Her mother died when she was only 9 and her father
preceded her in death a number of years ago. She went to DesMoines, Ia. in
1925 where she took up nurse's training, graduating in1928. She followed
her chosen work, doing private nursing around Des Moines until February,
1931.

She was united in marriage Feb. 20, 1931 to Carl Carlsen of Lake Benton, at
the Diamond Lake Lutheran church. Together they moved to Hartland where
they resided on a farm for 7 years, returning to Benton in the spring of
1938, moving to the present farm where she had the priviledge of living for
only such a short time.

She was taken ill last spring and went to Rochester, where she underwent a
major operation in July of this year. She returned to her home hoping to
regain her health, but instead her illness became serious. Her sister,
Anna, a registered nurse at Des Moines, came here to care for her, being
with her constantly thru the days of suffering until death came last week.

Marie was a quiet, sincere Christian woman, beloved by all who knew her.
Always a smile for everyone and willing to do her part for her friends and
her church. She took an active part in the Ladies Aid, the Sunday school
and the Choir during the time she lived here and will be greatly missed, not
only by those near and dear to her, but by many others. She attained the
age of 44 years, 3 months and seven days.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Carl Carlsen; one sister Anna:
her twin brother Niels M. Nielsen; a brother H. Peter Nielsen together with
their families; an uncle Mathias Andersen, many cousins in this community
and several in Denmark, as well as a host of friends who will all miss her.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Harald Ibsen, at the home.
