Caleb enlisted into Captain William Anderson's Company of the Georgia infantry on July 7, 1863. He then served in Cherokee County, Georgia, Co. F, 1st Confederate State Guards. He obtained the rank of Second Sergent and was mustered out on January 31, 1864.
In 1870 Caleb was one of two leaders of the Spring Place Baptist Church whose congregation included 12 negroes.
