Walter A. Kassner, 71, Joplin, died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, from injuries sustained on Aug. 22, 2008. Walt was born April 15, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Alvin and Elsa Kassner. He moved to the Fairview, Mo., area at the age of 12 and graduated from Fairview High School in 1955, and had served in the National Guard 22 years. He owned and operated Walt's Tractor Salvage at Fairview from 1967 to 1997, and currently operated H and H Farm Equipment in Joplin, since 1995. He was a member of the Prairie Flower Bible Church in Webb City, Mo. Walt married Evelyn Thomas on April 25, 1959, at Fairview. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Wally Kassner and wife, Sabreana, Newtonia; a daughter, Donna Ward and husband, Ronnie, Ozark, Mo.; four grandchildren, Nathan Ward and wife, Megan, Ozark, Jason Ward and wife, Candace, Nixa, Mo., Jenna Ward, Ozark, and Lindsey Yates, Granby; one sister, Sally Allen and husband, Fred, Weatherford, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Ginger Kassner; and brother, Eddie Kassner. Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby, Pastor Dave Ernest will officiate. Internment will be in the Dice Cemetery, Fairview.
