"Born at Carlisle, Schoharie county [New York], April 29, 1894, she was the daughter of Dr. Seth A. and Charlotte M. (Roscoe) Mereness. She spent two years with her family in Europe from 1896 to 1898. Upon their return they lived in Cobleskill [NY] until 1903. They then moved to Oneonta [NY] but the family home later was established at Milford [NY]... Miss Mereness was graduated from the Milford High School, the Oneonta State Normal school and Columbia University. She also took Post-Graduate work at Columbia. She taught for a short time in the Oxford Academy [NY], and then served as a Lieutenant in World War I in the capacity of a Reconstruction Aide. When she was discharged her health was impaired and she spent three years in Colorado during which time she did Post Graduate work in the University of Colorado. She taught in the Fredonia Normal [Fredonia, NY] for a year. In 1933 joined the faculty of the Oneonta Normal and had been associated with that school down to the present. She taught Psychology and was head of the Guidance office. Surviving besides the aged parents are a brother, Harry A. Mereness of Memphis, Tenn., and a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Plenge of Scotia [NY]."
