John was born on June 25, 1923 in Chesaning, Michigan, son of John Thomas and Florence Cecelia (Mahoney) Bartkowiak.

He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII.

On November 9, 1946, he married Helen Staffe in Dearborn, Mi.

John worked for George F.Alger Trucking as a long haul truck driver hauling steel to and from the eastern states from 1947-1962. John enjoyed driving truck and could back his trailor with pin point accuracy. He worked at MSU as a Custodial Supervisor for 24 years, retiring in 1983 while also farming 150 acres.

After retirement he worked at a family owned hardware in Perry, Michigan for seven years. John was a kind, patient, honest man who loved life, his family, farming and being outside.

John, age 85 of Perry, Michigan, passed away October 5, 2008 after an eight year struggle with dementia.

He was survived by his wife Helen, the love of his life of 61 years, six children: John (Connie) Bartkowiak of Grand Ledge, Brenda Bartkowiak of Bath, Betty (Doug) Bushard of Perry, Helen (Cliff) Farr of Lansing, Judy (Richard) Snyder of Okemos and Tom Bartkowiak of Indianapolis, IN, 14 grandchildren and 18 grt-grandchildren and one sister Patricia Wright of Holt and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Cecilia and Josephine and one brother Jerry.
