Captain Thomas Jefferson Barry was born 22 Nov 1835 in Johnson County, Tennessee. He also has a twin, Lucinda Barry. Thomas died 8 Sep 1909 in Johnson County, Tennessee. His father was Thomas Charles Barry and his mother was Lucinda Donnelly.
Captian Barry was married to (1)Martha Ann Northington on 3 Jul 1867; (2) Rebecca Virginia Grace on 21 Nov 1875 and (3) Mary Caroline Osborne.

"Thomas J. Barry took an active part in the Carter County rebellion. He was mustered into service as First Lieutenant of Company E at Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Sept., 24, 1863; was detailed as acting R.Q.M and promoted to Capt of Co E, Oct 13, 1864, and continued with the regiment until it was mustered out Sept 5, 1865.
Capt Barry commanded his company in the campaigns in East Tennessee and on the Stoneman raid in Va.
After the war, he married the daughter of Capt S. E. Northington and resided in Mountain City. He has been honored by appointment and election with a number of offices, among which were Sheriff, Register of Deed, County Superintendent of Public Instruction, Justice of the Peace, Chairman of the County Court, and County Surveyor. He has been engaged in school teaching, milling, and various enterprises since the war, and has raised a family of ten children."
