A native of Oconee County, she lived in Athens for over 70 years. Mrs. Belflower was retired from the University of Georgia Food Service and also worked many years as bookkeeper for Jordan's Auto Service in downtown Athens, but her favorite role in life was that of homemaker and mother. Mrs. Belflower was a charter member of the Forest Heights Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Belflower and Jeff (Christy) Belflower of Athens; granddaughter, Ruth Belflower of Rochester, N.Y.; brother, Bill Cartey (Blanche) of Athens; and her beloved boxer, "Brute" of the home.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Purdy officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Stacey Bridges, Kim English, Randy Garrett, Matt Jackson, Tommy Marable and Tom Stephenson.
