LAVALE,MARYLAND -- Dr. Kenneth E. Klosterman, 60, of LaVale, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1938, in Solomon Island, Md., the son of the late Robert S. and Alice (Morgan) Klosterman.

Dr. Klosterman was a local Veterinarian for 30 years. He began his practice with Dr. Edwin Everhart. He opened his own practice, The LaVale Veterinary Hospital and then moved his practice to Crossroads Animal Hospital. He also had a satellite clinic in Short Gap, W.Va., known as Town & Country Veterinary Clinic.

He was a graduate of LaSalle High School. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Math from Frostburg State College. He was a graduate of the University of GeorgIa, Athens, Ga., with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Airdale Early Warning Squadron, Key West, Fla. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity, University of Georgia Alumni Association, Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council #586, and a past member of LaVale Lions Club. He attended SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Michaels) Klosterman; three sons, Ken and wife, Karen, New Market, Michael and wife, Amy, Funkstown, and Bryan, of Bel Air, Cumberland; two granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth and Megan Patricia; two brothers, David and wife, Kathy, Pompano, Fla., and Thomas and wife, Jean, Dallas, Texas; aunt Pauline Logsdon, Short Gap; uncle Lawrence Klosterman, High Point, N.C.; mother-in-law, Patricia Mendonca and husband, Bill, Sacramento, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Kight and husband, Ted, Frostburg, Alice Turner and husband, Ed, Sacramento, Patricia Whiteman and husband, Jim, Winchester, Va.; and two brothers-in-law, Dean Michaels, Cresaptown, Leroy Michaels and wife, Doty, Oldtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 10, 1999, at 11 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Vance Pastorius as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Parish Wake service will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council #586 will participate.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ken to the Lung Transplant Research Fund, c/o Ann Renner, Johns Hopkins Hospital, 600 N. Wolfe St., Blaylock Room 910, Baltimore, MD 21286.

Pallbearers will be Edward Firlie, Theodore Kight, Jim Whiteman, Dean Michaels, Leroy Michaels, Fred Gellner and Lenny Millholland. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Turner, Dr. Allan Garst, Andrew Jabbapour, Vincent Connor and Dr. Troy Foland.
