OBITUARY: James Rankin, one of the oldest settlers of Henderson County, and the only surviving brother of David Rankin, the cattle king of Tarkio, MO., died in the Monmouth Hospital November 22, 1908, following an operation for bladder and kidney trouble undergone two or three days before. Mr. Rankin was to Henderson county _____ when a year old,making his home there until his death. In 1860 he married Miss Jane Thompson, and to this union one son was born, Edgar D. Rankin, the of Media. Mrs. Rankin died in 1890, and in 1892 Mr. Rankin was married again. Lizzie Edmons being his second wife, who with four children, survived him. The children, all of whom where at home were Waldo, Albert, Emma and Verna. Mr. Rankin was a highly- respected citizen of Henderson County, and a member of the United Presbyterian church at Media. His funeral was conducted by. Dr. S.J. Kyle of Biggsville, with burial in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
