His Dad died before "proving up" the family Montana Homestead. A Chicago law firm attempted to aide the Neilsen's in having the Homestead Patent issued to Wally (his Mother and siblings reportedly relinquished claims to the property). The Patent was issued to "The heirs of Hans P Nielsen" on January 5th, 1924.
Wally lived on the 80 acre homestead for a while (e.g. 1930 Census) and later moved the house to McCabe (e.g. 1940 Census). The 1940 US Census lists his mother as living with him in McCabe.
Over time he lost his eyesight and at some point his house was moved to the Ejnar & Anna (Wally's sister) Bentsen homestead about 1/2 mile E-SE of McCabe.
For several of his later years he lived at the Bethel Home in Williston, North Dakota.
