Jimmy aka "Buck" was born to jim and Patty Pherigo Mayes. Jimmy had two sisters Angie, and Becky, and was preceded in death by a brother. Jimmy was an active FFA member, worked at Beardstown IGA, and was very well liked by everyone. He was especially close to his parents, staying up late to eat pizza rolls with his mother. Jimmy did what most kids do on a saturday night, drank a beer, went for a ride. His car slid into the Beardstown marina, and sank. Jimmy swam to get help for his friend, but never made it to land. Resuscitation efforts failed and he was pronounced dead at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville at 2:45am. Jimmy's family continues to honor his memory, and grieve every second of the day. His funeral was held at Beardstown High School on March 25, 1998. Jimmy had too many friends and family to list. The funeral procession took over an hour to go 2 miles. He touched many lives, and lives on thru his family, and friends.
