Frank I. Flax, 78, of Ellis, Kansas, died Monday, Dec. 24, 1979, at St. Anthony Hospital, Hays, Kansas. He was a retired Union Pacific Railroad employee. He was born July 17, 1901, in Ellis, Kansas, to Paul and Anna (Honas) Flax. He married Catherine Flax, Jan. 21, 1925. She died May 22, 1942, and also two daughters, Catherine died May 28, 1942 and Minnie died Oct. 1947. He then married Clara (Flax) Weber June 10, 1948 in Ellis, Kansas. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Ellis, Kansas.Survivors include his wife, Clara, of the home; three sons, Gilbert Flax, New Almelo, Kansas, Paul J. Flax Sr., Hill City, Kansas, and Alfred Flax, Wichita, Kansas; three daughters, Albertina Fehrenbach, Ness City, Kansas, Rosie Hicks, Wichita, Kansas, and Agnes Richmeier, St. Peter, Kansas; two step-sons, Leonard Weber, Ellis, Kansas, and George Weber, Wichita, Kansas; and one step-daughter, Virginia Robinett, Wichita, Kansas; five brothers, Joe, Ransom, Kansas, Leo, WaKeeney, Kansas, Rudolph, Arnold, Kansas, John and Willard, Ness City, Kansas; two sisters, Catherine Kisslinger, Ransom, Kansas, and Regina Augustine, Salina, Kansas; 36 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was four brothers: Paul, Albert, Godfrey, and Ignatius. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 1979, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ellis, Kansas, with Father Paulinus Karlin officiating, burial in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Ransom, Kansas. A parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1979, at Johnson Funeral Home, Ellis, Kansas. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1979, at the funeral home.Casket bearers will be Greg Flax, Mike Fehrenbach, Jerry Weber, Frank Flax, Kenny Richmeier, and Gary Kaus.
