PATRICK "PAT" UNGER, Native of Cornelius

POWELL BUTTE - Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Roy for Patrick "Pat' Unger, 80, Powell Butte. Mr. Unger died March 14, 2005, two days before his 81st birthday, of injuries suffered when he fell off a ladder at his home. Saturday's services will be in St. Francis of Assisi Parish Cemetery in Roy. A reception will follow in the basement of St. Francis Church, Roy.

Mr. Unger was born March 16, 1924, in Cornelius, a son of Frank and Hermina Vogel Unger. He left school after eight years to help support his family. He served in the U.S. Army 398th Division during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was married to Lenore VanDomelen for 46 years prior to her death in 1993. He later married Georgia Ray.

Mr. Unger worked as a farmer and later worked in real estate. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, gardening, construction and creating waterfalls. He also learned to pilot a helicopter in his 60s and

was fond of animals.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Unger, Powell Butte; seven children, David of Mexico, Paul and John of Forest Grove, Bruce, Joanne and Mark of Cornelius and Elaine Herin of Goldendale, Wash.;

22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Kiem, Beaverton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Northwest Medical Teams for tsunami relief.
