WOMAN FOUND DROWNED IN SUGAR CREEK
New Holland

A New Holland woman was found drowned Wednesday afternoon in Sugar Creek, east of New Holland in Northwestern Logan County.

Phyllis E. Long, 57, was found in the creek about 1:45 p.m. by Irwin Conklen of New Holland. Conklen and his son had been fishing in the creek.

Capt. Robert Schacht of the Logan County sheriff's office said foul play is not suspected in the case.

Schacht said the woman's husband, Ted Long, told authorities she had been despondent when last seen.

Funeral services for Mrs. Long will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Holland & Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Mrs. Long was born in Mason City, a daughter of Henry and Bessie Holt Hodshire.

She married Ted Long Aug. 15, 1938, in Bowling Green, Mo.

She leaves her husband; sons, Ronald of Lincoln; Jimmie and William, both of New Holland; sisters, Mrs. Maxine List of Easton; Mrs. Mary Jacobs of Canton; brothers, Frank of Marquette Heights; Vincent of Peoria; 10 grandchildren.

A sister preceded her in death.
