Mrs. Hodge was born June 16, 1918, in Byrnesville, the daughter of the late Frederick Schmelz and wife Kathryn, nee Schneedle.
She received her education at Barr Creek School. She was united in marriage to Howard G. Hodge July 3, 1943, in Valley Park.
Mrs. Hodge was employed for 25 years by Carmo Shoe Company as a fancy stitcher. She was a member of St. Jordan United Church of Christ in Beaufort.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and two brothers, Herbert Schmelz and Warren "Leo" Schmelz.
Mrs. Hodge is survived by two daughters, Barbara Wiley and husband Allen, Warrenton, and Carolyn Sue Meyer and husband Larry, Marthasville; four grandchildren, Lynette Voss and husband Lynn, New Haven, and Glenda Lundak, Karen Fischer and Sheila Yeary and husband Kendel, all of Washington; 11 great-grandchildren, Bronwen and Canaan Voss, Summer and Johnny Lundak, Sahara Meyer, Kala, Bosten and Kennedy Fridley, Lauren Quinten and Devon Yeary; three sisters, Mary Kley, Catawissa, Mildred Kley, New Florence, and LaVerne Shanks, Belle; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with the Rev. DeKallos officiating.
Burial was in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Robertsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wounded Warriors are preferred.
