Mother of Algonian Dies at Titonka

Mrs. Herman Mechler, mother of Mrs. M. W. Schwietert of Algona, died on Friday evening, December 30, at her home in Titonka, following a paralytic stroke. She had been in ill health for the past fifteen years following a previous stroke. Rachael Friedricka Keuer was born November 15, 1868, in Mecklenberg, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Keuer. When a child of nine she came to Iowa where she settled with her parents in Iowa county. She was married to Herman Mechler on March 24, 1884, at Homestead, Iowa. They located in Kossuth county near Titonka in the spring of 1896, but later moved to Crookston, Minnesota, in 1902 and lived there for six years when they returned to Titonka. Fourteen years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Titonka. Mrs. Mechler is survived by her husband and three children, Elmer and Clarence of Titonka, and Vera, wife of M. W. Schwietert, linotype operator at this office. She was a woman of high character, devoted to her home and family. As a child she was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Oxford, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Good Hope Lutheran church in Titonka, January 2, with the Rev. H. W. Schoenlein in charge. Interment was made at the Buffalo Township Cemetery.
