Ocala - Phil Carlman passed away on December 15, 2008 peacefully and surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Beverly, MA and moved to Ocala in 1997. He graduated in 1968 from Babson College with a finance degree. He was a pilot in the Air Force during the Vietnam War achieving the rank of Captain. As an entrepreneur, he founded The Stop Smoking Clinic in Beverly, MA and Signologies in Seabrook, NH. He was the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen in South Hampton, NH in the 1990's. He was the founder and broker/owner of Maverick Realty, Inc. in Ocala and on the Board of Directors of Owls-Ocala, Inc. (Ocala Wildlife Sanctuary). He is preceded in death by his father, Philip L. Carlman, Sr., mother Beverly Bartlett Carlman and sister, Rebelle Steedman Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Heidi, his sisters Rhonda King of Ocala, Cherie Kennedy of Fuqua-Varina, NC, Lori Booker of Orlando, and was "Uncle Phil" to 28 nieces and nephews, including David Steedman, Cynthia Bohannon Raulerson, Adrienne King, Katie King and Philip King of Ocala, Lisa Schichtel and Scott Thomas of Palm Coast, Wendie Roberts of Fuqua-Varina, NC, Brent Kennedy, Christy Booker, Jamie Booker and Julie Booker of Orlando. His incredible attitude, generosity, humor and integrity will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Owls-Ocala, Inc., P. O. Box 1924, Ocala, FL 34478, Hospice of Marion County or a cancer charity of your choice, A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Homes Chapel located at 606 SW 2nd Ave., Ocala, Fl. 352-622-4141.
