Memorial services for Helen Mathel Emde 96, of Wellman will be held 2 PM on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Pleasant Hill Church in Joetown with Pastor Marlene Janssen and Chaplain Carroll Yoder officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Joetown. The family will greet friends from 1-2PM at the church. The body has been cremated.
A memorial fund has been established for Hospice Compassus and the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Helen died Wednesday, September 22 at the Parkview Home in Wellman following a brief illness.
Helen M. (Mathel) Emde was born October 1, 1913 in Washington County the daughter of George and Mary (Shrader) Trieschmann. She was united in marriage to Carl T. Emde on December 25, 1936 at the Franklin Methodist Church in rural Iowa County. She worked as a waitress at the University of Iowa Hospital coffee shop, did cleaning in private homes and worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa Hospital. Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, entertaining friends and family, traveling and vegetable and flower gardening.
Survivors include one daughter and one granddaughter.
Preceding Helen in death were her parents, husband Carl on April 6, 1996, one daughter, Nancy Louise Emde, three brothers, Joseph, Harold, Willard Trieschmann and one sister, Marjorie Miller.
