Jack, age 73, died at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Jack was born the son of Jess & Leila (Bunt) Reiter. Jack graduated from Platteville Schools with the class of 1948, and attended a three year short course at UW-Madison. He was united in marriage on July 20, 1984 to Joyce Gehrke at Lima Union Church. He served in the National Guard, Company M, 128th Infantry for 15 years, from 1947 until December 1962. He also served as treasurer for Company M. Jack worked for Sears where he was an appliance repairman and later, he owned and operated Reiter Appliance Repair Service in Platteville. He currently was employed by the city of Platteville where he was supervisor of building and grounds. He served on the Platteville Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years, where he was chief for nine years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 42, Platteville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Platteville, WI; four children, Jim (Cindy) Reiter of Platteville, WI, Patsy (WD) Huffman of Altus, OK, Mel (Carolyn) Gehrke of Platteville, WI, and Steve (Lori) Gehrke of Platteville, WI; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Dean) Paulson of Belmont, WI, Scott (special friend, Leah Bentley) Reiter of Platteville, WI, Candy (Isaac) Williams of Oklahoma City, OK, Chris (DeAnn) Gehrke of Lancaster, WI, Chad (special friend, Krista Fiest) Gehrke of Platteville, WI, Kelly, Nicole and Kindra Gehrke, all of Platteville, WI, and Jenny Gehrke of Madison, WI; six great-grandchildren, Tanner Paulson, Karissa and Matt Bollant, and Nick, Bret and Kaylie Fiest; two brothers, Doug (Faye) Reiter of Titusville, FL, and Paul (Betty) Reiter of Pardeeville, WI; a sister, Janet Martens of Platteville, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Tyler James Paulson; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Reiter and Richard "Dick" Reiter; and a sister, Donna Campbell. Funeral services were held at the First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. The Rev. JoAnn Post and the Rev. Joel Ley officiated. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 42 and V.F.W. Post No. 5274. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jack Reiter Memorial Fund.
