Gerald was born in the village of Ping San, Fah Doh, Guangdong Province, China. He and his sister, Anne Toy were the only children of Toy Sheong Loh and Jun Yun Loh.

He immigrated to the United States at the age of eight and attended school in San Francisco.

He moved to Visalia in 1938, where he continued his education and learned the meat trade.

He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946.

He owned and operated the Palace Meat Market in downtown Tulare. The business has grown over the years and is now located at the corner of West Street and Tulare Avenue under the current name Palace Food Depot.

He was a founding member of the Central California Chinese Cultural Center located in Visalia.

He loved fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Tulare Golf Course.

Above all things, his greatest joy was his family whom he loved deeply. We will all miss him dearly and we know he is in a better place...a place called Heaven where there are no limits.

Gerald is survived by Mary, his wife of 65 years; six children and their families, Genevieve Cheu and her husband Dudley of San Rafael, Geralyne Gong and her husband Mark Taylor of San Leandro, Steven Gong and his wife Jun of Tulare, Terri Larson and her husband Tom of Clovis, Geary Gong and his wife Kathy of Tulare, and Andrew Gong of Tulare; ten grandchildren, Jason Cheu and his wife Anne of Novato, Adrianne Canfil of San Leandro, Amy Larson and her husband Brian Steves of Portland, Derek Cheu and his wife Debbie of Brooklyn, Ryan Larson of Las Vegas, Erin Taylor of Las Vegas, Eric Gong of Tulare, Sara Gong of Tulare, Brittany Gong of Tulare, and Jordan Gong of Tulare; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Cheu of Novato, Clark Cheu of San Novato, Kellen Cheu of Brooklyn, and Owen Steves of Portland.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel in Fresno on Thursday, January 8, 2009, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

A Wake Service will follow from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at United Methodist Church inTulare on Friday, January 9, 2009, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Chinese Cultural Center, 500 S. Akers, Visalia, Ca., or Fah Yuen Association,San Francisco.
