The following information was published in a unidenified newspaper dated MAY 20, 1898.
Died, of heart disease, at his home a few miles south of Moselle, Friday morning, May 18, 1858. John G. Bruns aged 73 years, 7 months and 18 days.
Mr. Bruns was born in Ohlenberg, Germany, September 24, 1822, and came to America in 1848. He followed boating on the Mississippi until his marriage, on Dec. 27, 1854, to Elizabeth Gerken, when he settled on a farm in Jefferson County, where he lived until a few years ago, when the family moved to the farm among the finest on the Meramec where he died.
He leaves five sons, and five daughters, also a brother survives. His life companion departed this life October 20, 1883.
Deceased was one of Franklin Counties highly respected citizens, one that lead a honorable and successful life.
The remains were taken to Jefferson County to buried in the old family burying ground near Dittman's store. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Torbitzky (not sure just a guess as the print wasn't clear enough) assisted by by Rev. Geo. St____? A large number of citizens were present to pay thier last tribute of respect to their departed neighbor.

Surname was changed after 1880 to Bruns from Oeltjenbruns.
