Mr. Osterbur was born June 27, 1918, in Royal, the son of John F. and Catherine Huls Osterbur. He married Theresa Habben on Sept. 2, 1939, in Royal. She preceded him on May 12, 2007.
He is survived by one son, Lynn (Donita) Osterbur of Ogden; two grandsons, Chad (Renee) Osterbur of Champaign and Christopher (Lisa) Osterbur of St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Conner Osterbur; and four brothers, Martin Osterbur of Thomasboro, Herbert Osterbur of Royal, Robert Osterbur of Royal, and Erwin Osterbur of Rantoul.
He was preceded by his parents and two sisters, Anna Busboom and Bertha Osterbur.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Royal. He sang in the choir at church for 65 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the Royal American Legion Post 996. He played baseball in the E.I. league for many years. He and his wife ran a grocery store for years in Royal, he worked for Hunter Lumber Company, and he farmed for many years. He was a die-hard Cubs fan, and took a great deal of pride in his grandsons and was delighted to see his great-grandchildren. He had served on the Royal school board, the church board, and the cemetery board.
