There will be no visitation. Cremation rites were accorded. Per Barbara's request, a private graveside service will be held. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at the home of Beth and Jim Petty with Rev. Father David Braun officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gassmann was born December 9, 1927, in Petersburg, Ind., the daughter of Ralph and Lora (Stone) Elkins. She was the beloved wife of George Gassmann.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney.
Mrs. Gassmann was a devoted mother and is survived by six children: Carrie Burrows, of Glen Ellyn; Emily Gassmann, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Judy Burrows, of Cary; George Gassmann Jr., of Alton; Beth Petty, of Olney; Dan Gassmann, of Western Springs; sister, Januita King, of Olney; sister, Patricia Rose, of Olney; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Chris, and daughter, Harriet.
Memorials may be made to Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation Women's Health Center Project, 800 Locust St., Olney, IL 62450.
