Herman Luedtke, Prominent Banker, Is Influenza Victim
Herman W. Luedtke, vice president of Citizen's Bank in Creston, NE. & president of Group 2, Nebraska Banker's association, died at his home in Creston, 8:30 p.m. Tues. He was taken ill with influenza last Wed. & double pneumonia immediately thereafter.
Mrs. Luedtke was suffering with influenza at the same time, but now recovering.
Mr. Luedtke was born 5 mi. southeast of Creston on 20 July 1880. He spent his boyhood days on the farm. After completing his course in public school, he attended Fremont College. Later he taught 2 yrs. in rural schools in Creston.
In 1903, Mr. Luedtke began his career as a banker. Entering Citizens State Bank as a bookkeeper, he successively & successfully filled the position as assistant cashier, cashier & elected as vice president. Not long after, he & his brother, Eric, acquired a controlling interest in the institution. He was very highly regarded by the bankers in central Nebraska & was elected as president of Group 2.
On 25 June 1907, he married Miss Anna L. Graham, the daughter of the late Edward T. Graham, who was one of Platte county's pioneers. 3 children were born to them, 1 son, Milan & 2 daughters, Lois & Ilene.
Besides his wife & children, he leaves 4 brothers, Ed, Fred, Carl & Eric; 3 1/2 brothers, Ernest, Herbert & August; 3 sisters, Mrs. Herman Sander, Mrs. George Sander & Louise Luedtke; & a 1/2 sister, Anna Luedtke.
Simple, straight-forward, honesty was the foundation of Herman Luedtke built successfully in the commercial world. His word was as good as his bond, & people who knew him trusted him implicitly. He was a financial guide & counselor for rich & poor alike in his own community, & all who enjoyed his acquaintance found him as a friend.
Mr. Luedtke was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Stonecypher of the Creston Presbyterian Church at the family resident at 1:30 p.m., today.
