A celebration of life for Dieter W. Zimmermann, 73, of Ormond Beach, who passed away on January 27, 2009, will be held on Sat., Feb. 7, 2009 at 2 p.m., at Christ Pres­byterian Church, 1035 W. Granada, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. He was born on March 9, 1935, to Walter and Ruth Zim­mermann, in Stetting, Germany, Dieter moved to the area in 1981, from Bensalem, PA. He was a toolmaker at Sherwood Medical in DeLand for 16 years. Dieter was a singer and Festmeister with THE BAVARIANS for many years. He made little hand­crafted wooden instruments he called Klakkers, and gave many away to spread joy, especially to handicapped children and adults. He and his wife, Joanne enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world. Square dancing with the Granada Squares was a favorite weekly pastime. He dearly loved his two cats, Abby and Dusty. He was a past presi­dent of the German American Society of Daytona Beach, and member of the German Ameri­can Society of Central, FL., a Junior Warden of Humboldt Masonic Lodge in PA, member of Ormond Beach Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Central Florida, and a Deacon at Christ Pres­byterian Church in Ormond Beach. A member of the Men's Ministry there, he traveled to El­euthera to help build a church. His deep faith has been an inspi­ration to all who knew him.

Dieter was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his two sons, Hannelore Elfrieda Schneider Zimmermann.

In addition to Joanne, his wife of more than 25 years, Dieter leaves his son, Mark D.P. (Pau­la); and grandchildren, Kirsten and Justin, of New Smyrna Beach; son, Michael K.P. (Jean­nie) and grandchildren, Kris and Ronnie, Georgia; step-children, Scott (Dawn) Cope, Cierra and Ryan, Amy (Chip) Snowden, Chad, Liz, and Chris, all of Jack­sonville, and Paul Cope, of Day­tona Beach. He leaves his brother, Hasi (Chris) Zimmer­mann and niece, Simone; ister, Gitte (Ralph) Bebenitz, nieces, Gaby (Utz) Sternberg, Annika and Svenja, Traude Maas, Lue­beck Germany; brother-in-law, Klaus Dieter (Gisi) Schneider, Johanna, Alexandra, Michaela, and Leonhard, Germany, nieces, Reet (Bosse) Uusman, Simon, and Ulrika (Christer) Skogback, Patrik and Camilla, both of Gote­berg, Sweden, and his godmoth­er, Trutchen Dennig, of Kiel. He recently traveled there and saw all of his relatives at the holiday time.
