Recitation of the Rosary for Vivian E. Torrez, 68, of Rocky Ford, will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Parish. The funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Higbee Cemetery following the services. She died Feb. 6, 2003. Mrs. Torrez was born Jan. 23, 1935, in Higbee to Manuel and Vivianita (Villareal) Martinez. She grew up in Higbee and attended La Junta Schools and a private Catholic school in Canon City for two years. She graduated from La Junta High School. She married Salomon Torrez on Sept. 1, 1956. She and her husband resided in the Kim area for one year before moving to the Rocky Ford area. She was a loving wife and mother and dedicated to raising her family. She is survived by her husband; daughters Arlene (Warren) Shin of Denver, Adrienne (Ruben) Ortega of Security, Bernadette (LeRoy) Gallegos of Brighton, Audrey (Jay Fluent) Torrez-Fluent of Denver; grandchildren, Brittney Ortega, Brandon Ortega, LeRoy Gallegos, Jessica Gallegos; brother Vidal (Vidalia Cordova) Martinez of La Junta. She is also survived by friends Billy Nelson and Jennie Lopez as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Torrez was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Manuel, Alex and John Martinez and sister Josie Martinez. Memorial contributions may be made to a cancer charity of choice. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
