The former Jewel Dutcher was born in Sebewaing on August 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Perry and Elizabeth (Avery) Dutcher and graduated from Bay Port High School.
On November 22, 1946, Jewell Dutcher was united in marriage to Paul George Swartzendruber at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church. He survived her.
Jewell Swartzendruber enjoyed needlework and problem solving, especially crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed reading and gardening, particularly flower gardening. Her family and grandchildren, however, were her favorite pastime. She was a faithful member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church.
In addition to her husband George, to whom she had been married for more than 59 years, she was survived by four children, Judy (Larry) Stutzman of Flushing, Ralph (Debra) Swartzendruber of Bay Port, Paul (Lori) Swartzendruber of Pigeon, and Anita Gehringer of Flushing; eight grandchildren: Amy, Jason (Megan), Kelly, Linsey, Jessica, Angela, Jill, and Kyle; a sister, Zola (Arthur) Roeber of Pigeon; two brothers, Frank (Gertrude) Dutcher of Hartville, Ohio and Ronald (Rhea) Dutcher of Bay Port; many nieces and nephews; and in-laws Ray (Goldie) Swartzendruber of Pigeon and Helen Swartzendruber of Fairview.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lawanda Gnagey.
Funeral: Pigeon River Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Tom Beachy, pastor, and the Rev. Luke Yoder officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
