John Benjamin Wilson was born in Stark County, Ohio 23 March 1823. His first wife was Mary E. Crockett (1831-1869). They married in 23 November 1847 in Stark County, Ohio. They had nine children, Osse (1848, Benjamin (1849-1909), James Robert (1852-1915),Edgar Farmer, (1854-1905), William K. (1856-1923), Horace E. (1858-1912), Laura (1861-1862), Lewis (1863-1865) and Mary(1869-1869). Mary died as a result of this last child's birth.

In 1865 John and Mary immigrated from Osnaburg Twp., Stark County, Ohio to Kosciusko County, Indiana. There they obtained land and built a two story log home. This home stood till about 1936. He was a farmer in Clay Twp. Kosciusko County.

After Mary's death the family seems to have dispersed. In the 1870 census John is living with the with the Samuel Snoke Family. Then in December of 1870, John married Susannah Barbara Adams. They had four children, Issac (1871-1943), Monroe (1873-1954), Harvey (1877-1948) and Fannie Rose (1881-1964).

He was a Civil War Veteran. He Enlisted on 2 May 1864 as a Corporal and on 20 May1864 he mustered into "G" Co. 162nd Ohio Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 9 April 1864 at Camp Chase, Ohio.

John died 16 October 1903 in Kosciusko County and is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kosciusko County.
