Enid,OK β€” Betty Porter, 99, of Grinnell, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Mayflower Community Health Care Center, Grinnell, Iowa.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service in Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mayflower Community Human Needs Fund or to the U.C.C.-Congregational.

Survivors include three children, Dr. Sam Porter of Mason City, Sandra Gade of Ames, and Mary Miller of Enid, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel Dale Porter.

Betty Porter's parents are Lorenzo Dow & Orabelle Brinegar Hutton. When she was 4 yrs old she lost her parents and lived in an orphanage until she was adopted by the Charles Davis family. She married Dr. Samuel Dale Porter Jun 23, 1930 in Omaha. Thought that might interest someone. Betty is on the Smith Funeral web site in Grinnell.
