Cy was born the son of Joseph & Paulina Wermerskirchen Koob. He grew up in Iona and graduated from St. Columba High School in 1932. Following high school Cy attended St. Mary's College in Winona, MN for one year. On January 31, 1939, he and Olivia Gaul were married in Worthington, MN and Cy farmed, operated a gas station and later owned and operated Koob Implement. In 1975, they moved to Minneapolis. In 1984 they returned to Slayton. Olivia passed away November 6, 2007. Cy remained in their home until January 2009 when he moved to Our Hospice Home in Slayton. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Cy enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Cy & Olivia were the parents of William, Douglas, Pauline, Anthony, Kathryn, Gregory, Kevin & Leslie.

Cy's siblings included Quirinus, Bernetta, Melchoir, Suzanne, Ionilla, Aloy, Hilary, Nita & Joseph.
