Herman Schoppenhorst immigrated to America in 1844. The family arrived at Port of New Orleans, ship Ellen Brooks, on 28 October 1844. With his wife and children, he prepared to settle near his two older sons, Wilhelm and Herman, who were then living in Warren County, MO. He died in Warren County in 1845. Further research is necessary to more clearly chart this Schoppenhorst family.
Notes provided by Mr. Frank Robert Schoppenhorst (1889-1979), grandson of Mr. Schoppenhorst, Sr., provide the following:
Herman took sick in the fall of that same year and died 1845. He was buried in what is now known as Holstein Cemetery, one of the first ones to be buried there. His grave was not marked at that time and therefore cannot be definitely located. His widow a year or two later married a man by the name, L. Stilke, have no further record. [The widow, Mrs Schoppenhorst (1802-1856), married Christoph Ludwig August Stilke 02 Jan 1846.]
