Notes provided by Mr. Frank Robert Schoppenhorst (1889-1979), grandson of Mr. Schoppenhorst, Sr., provide the following:
Herman took sick in the fall of that same year and died 1845. He was buried in what is now known as Holstein Cemetery, one of the first ones to be buried there. His grave was not marked at that time and therefore cannot be definitely located. His widow a year or two later married a man by the name, L. Stilke, have no further record. [The widow, Mrs Schoppenhorst (1802-1856), married Christoph Ludwig August Stilke 02 Jan 1846.]
