Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church Tuesday. High mass of Requiem was offered by Father Thomas in the morning and burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery at 3 in the afternoon. Pallbearers were Frank and Nick Yosten, William Kathman, Frank Kaiser, John Tempel and Joe Swingler.
Ida was born March 7, 1875, in Baden, Germany, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of seven, settling with them at Long Island, N.Y. They later moved to Taylor,Texas, where she was married to Joe Burkhart on September 28, 1892. They came to Muenster in 1903 and resided here since that time. They observed their golden wedding last September.
Her death was a distinct shock to her family and friends. Her hobby was gardening and she had spent Monday working in her victory garden. Toward evening she complained of feeling badly and was urged to bed by her husband and daughter, Miss Gertrude, who was visiting. She spent the next four days in bed reluctantly, sitting up most of the time and conversing with her family. Only a few minutes before her death she discussed supper plans with her daughter.
She is survived by her husband and eight children; Mrs. Henry Trachta of Muenster, Henry Burkhart of Dallas, John Burkhart of Wichita Falls, Otto Burkhart of Leo, Mrs. Clara Bryant of Fort Worth, Joe Burkhart of Long Island, New York, Miss Gertrude Burkhart of Fort Worth and Seaman Roy Burkhart with the US Navy in San Diego, California and three brothers; Rev. Linus Stahl of Ohio, Fabian Stahl of Oregon, and John Stahl of Lindsay.
