Emanuel Schumm dies at Van Wert

Emanuel H. Schumm, 81, well known resident of route 1, Willshire, O., died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at the Van Wert Manor nursing home, where he had been a patient for five days. He had been in failing health for the past three years.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church at Schumm and was active in church affairs, serving as Sunday school teacher for many years.

Mr. Schumm was a retired grain dealer and a former employee of the Willshire Grain & Supply Co. for 50 years. He was the last postmaster at Schumm. He was a veteran of World War I and was a charter member of the Homer Pearson post 207 of the American Legion at Willshire.

He was born in Schumm (Willshire township) on Jan. 17, 1892, the son of Henry and Minnie Hoppe-Schumm, and was married to Edna Scaer on Oct. 22, 1929.

Surviving are the wife; two children, Elmer E. of New Haven, and Mrs. Marvin (Mary) Grote of route 2, Ohio City, O.; two sisters, Miss Edna Schumm of route 1, Willshire; and Rev. Alfred of New haven; and four grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran church at Schumm, with Rev. Robert D. Schuler officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran cemetery at Schumm. Friends may call at the Zwick funeral home until 11 a.m. Tuesday and at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of the services.
