Joseph, 91, of Owosso, passed away Friday, at Oliver Woods Retirement Village.

Joseph founded J.L. Cerveny Jeweler's in 1944, and retired after fifty years of service to the community. He started as an avid stamp collector, laying the path for his love of gems. He was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, achieved membership to the American Gem Society and was a certified watchmaker.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, December 6, 2010, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Fain officiating. A Rosary was prayed.

Joseph was the son of Toefil and Theresia (Baracic) Cerveny. He graduated from St. Paul High School.

On July 14, 1945, he married Agnes Lacina at St. Paul's Catholic Church. She predeceased him on February 24, 2005. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, where he was active with the Nocturnal Adoration Society, a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Third Degree, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was a talented wood worker and enjoyed carving. He enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, traveling, photography, feeding the birds and was known to his family, friends and aquaintances for his wonderful sense of humor and kindness.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (Saul) Rodriguez; sons, Dan (Judy) Cerveny and Brian (Wendy) Cerveny, all of Owosso; grandchildren, Amanda (James) Maurer, Scott Cerveny, Dr. Christopher (Meghan) Cerveny, Gregory Cerveny (Dr. Shannon Shaw) and Lisa Anne (Ryan) Spicer; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Peyton Spicer; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes; great-grandson, Joseph; his parents; a brother, John Cerveny; and a sister, Ann Dvorak.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul's Catholic Church or Memorial Healthcare Hospice.
