Melvin L. Keller, 81, of Gering, NE died Friday, February 13, 2009 at his home in Scotts Bluff County with his family by his side. His funeral service will be 10:0 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Doug Rupp officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Memorials have been established to Salem Congregational Church, Prairie Haven Hospice or to Progressive Supernuclear Palsey Foundation (PSP).
Melvin was born June 29, 1927 in Scottsbluff, NE to Peter and Maria (Schmidt) Keller.
He attended Gering Schools and married Diana Yakel June 29, 1952. He entered the Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was employed by Swift and Company and Scottsbluff Packing Co for several years. He loved to cook for his family and also cooked at the Elks Lodge in Scottsbluff for many years. Melvin's greatest love was his six grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Diana; sons: Jeffrey (Stacey) Keller, Scottsbluff, NE, Gregory (Lucienne) Keller, Lyman, NE and Carey (Brenda) Keller, Scottsbluff, NE; grandchildren: Tyson, Madison, Paige and Joshua of Scottsbluff, NE and Justin and Laurence of Lyman, NE; Brothers: Ed Keller, Bayard, NE, Gerald and Elmer of Gering, NE; sister: Gladys Nelson, Hilton Head, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Reuben and Leo Keller, aunt and uncle Lydia and Carl Schmidt, mother-in-law Mollie Yakel and nephew Thomas Keller.
