Karen Ann Westphal, 39, of Scotts Valley, CA and formerly of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at her home.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30 in the chapel of Laufersweiler- Sievers Funeral Home with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Surviving is her husband Ben; step-children, Sara Hellvig of Waterloo, Ann Westphal of Manhattan, NY, Dana Westphal of Humboldt; parents Richard (Dick) and Mary Wilson of Fort Dodge; brothers, Tim (Karolee) Wilson of Napa, CA, Thomas (Lisa) Wilson of Fort Dodge; sisters, Khris (William) Wolfe of Fort Dodge, Kathy (John) Gehlhausen of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law Lori (George) Bower of Spirit Lake; nieces and nephews, Kirsten and Alex Wilson, Abby Wilson, Rick Wilson and Max Bower, Cory and Cassidy Wolfe, Austin and Tyler Gehlhausen; and two very special boys- her cats, "Boo and Sammy". She was preceded in death by her grandparents Art and Dorothy Wilson, Cecil and Doris Vaughn; a brother, Rick Wilson; and a step-son-in-law, Andrew Hellvig.
Karen Ann Wilson was born October 8, 1968 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from St Edmond High School in 1987 and attended the Department of the Blind in Des Moines. In 1995 she graduated from Iowa Central Community College and in 1998 she graduated from Buena Vista University, Fort Dodge. She was employed at the School for the Blind in Vinton Iowa from 1998-2000. On February 17, 1999 she was united in marriage to Ben Westphal in Vinton where they established their home. In 2000, Karen began working for the AEA in Clear Lake until 2002, when they moved to Scotts Valley, CA. She worked for the Dorian Foundation from 2002-2004 in Santa Cruz, CA.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
