Sudden Death of Henry Osterloh
Word of the sudden death at around 8 o'clock yesterday morning of Henry Osterloh, well known retired farmer, cast a pall of gloom and sorrow over this community of which he had been a life long resident. Death came before he arose to begin the day's activities, although he had made no complaint of feeling ill when his wife left their room a short time before and had been following his customary daily routine all of the previous day. Death resulted from a heart attack, an ailment with which he was stricken in March of 1942, at which time he was very ill and from which he made a very slow and gradual recovery. He and his family moved into town from their farm north of the city in the fall of 1940 after spending all of his previous years on the same farm on which he was born.
The son of John G. and Meta Behrens Osterloh, early pioneer settlers of Logan township, Henry G. Osterloh was born October 28, 1895, on the home place which after the retirement of his father from active farming he successfully operated.
He was united in marriage on January 23, 1918, to Alma Uehling, the couple observing their silver anniversary this year. His death came on April 28, 1943, while he was still in the prime of his manhood, aged 47 years and 6 months. A director of the First National Bank of Hooper and of the Hooper Telephone company, he was active in the interests of both concerns. For many years he served on the board of education of his home school, district 18, and also as president of the rural school board association of Dodge county. He was member of the Grace Lutheran church of Hooper and had served terms on the church council. He was also affiliated with the Knights of Pythias and A. F. & A. M. fraternal orders. Mr. and Mrs. Osterloh were the parents of two daughters, Kathryn, in civil service at Washington, D. C., since late last year, and Vernel a high school senior.
Surviving also are one brother, Emil, of Hooper, and two sisters, Mrs. John A. Schroeder of Hooper and Mrs. Adolph Moeller of Scribner. By the members of this close family circle and by a host of both old and new neighbors and friends, cheery, genial Henry Osterloh, who loved his family and keenly appreciated friendly intercourse with his fellow man, will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements were awaiting word of the time of arrival of the elder daughter from Washington, and had not been announced at the time of the paper going to press. Arrangements are in charge of Wollmer and Warne.
