WILMINGTON - Maria Elena Mitchell went to be with God on Aug. 3, 2007, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was born in Winston-Salem on March 4, 1967. She was preceded in death by her father, Steve Mitchell of Kannapolis. She is survived by her parents, Judy Mitchell Farri and Joseph F. Farri of Wilmington; her aunts, Karen Hampton of Concord, Ella Mallenbaum and husband, Victor, of Raleigh, Marcy Mitchell and husband, Bob, of Durham; and uncle, Jack Harrison and wife, Janet, of Concord; in addition to her Nain (grandmother) Alice Farri of Saint Louis, Mo. Also, her cousins, Dana, Julie, Leslie, Jeana, Heath, Alana, Scarlett and Syd. Maria's passions were singing and cooking for others. Sadly, her struggle with bi-polar disease became all-consuming, but we will always remember the joy she brought to our lives. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wilmington on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. A graveside memorial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord later in the week. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401 or a local bi-polar support group.
